The Need Is Real. And It’s Bigger Than You Think.
There are more than 500,000 people experiencing homelessness on any given night in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. And while the need for shelter, food, and clothing is widely recognized, socks remain one of the most needed, and least donated, items at shelters nationwide.
Unlike coats or blankets, socks wear out quickly. They're rarely donated used, and they’re essential for maintaining foot health, warmth, and dignity, especially for people walking miles each day in unpredictable conditions.
Without clean, dry socks, individuals facing homelessness are more likely to suffer from:

🧡 Grace Centers of Hope – Pontiac, MI
A long-standing nonprofit providing comprehensive services for men, women, and children facing homelessness, addiction, and abuse. Grace Centers of Hope offers transitional housing, meals, education, and spiritual support to help people rebuild their lives with dignity and long-term stability.
🧡 Hope Shelter – Waterford, MI
HOPE Hospitality & Warming Center serves those experiencing homelessness with compassion and safety. From emergency overnight shelter to supportive case management, they meet people where they are and walk with them toward hope and healing—providing socks and essential items to make that journey just a little more bearable.
🧡 MCREST (Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team)
MCREST partners with local churches and agencies to provide temporary shelter, meals, transportation, and assistance finding stable housing. They serve single men, women, and children in Macomb County, helping guests transition out of homelessness and back into independence. Our sock donations help support guests during these critical times.
